Friday night was heralded as Celtic Rock night and indeed it was. There were some very fine rock bands, including Sean Fleming, Hedge School, Tinker's Daughter, Goats Don't Shave, and Black 47. It's too bad the weather wasn't cooperative... not that it was rainy but that it was cold. The temperature dropped into the high 30's. But with the bands playing and Denis and I swaying, we sure didn't feel the cold.
When the festival closed down for the night, our adventure has yet to begin. We drove 3 hours up the coast to Cocoa (yes that's where I Dream of Genie was set). You see, we are made a commitment to help cater a wedding. (Don't those rednecks know not to interfere with an Irish festival?) We arrived at 3 in the morning and rather than wake the entire house, we snuggled up real cozy and slept in the van to the happy tune of chattering teeth. The temperature was in the 20's (brrrr....too cold for this old woman!)
Plan A was to leave the wedding reception and return to the festival in time to catch the last couple of bands. But alas, age seemed to catch up to us. A somewhat sleepless night, a long day of slaving in the kitchen and the long drive back necessitated Plan B (home!)
Sunday morning we were up bright and early to return to the site of the festivities. We attended the mass which was spoken in Gaelic. After mass, the festivities continued. We were joined by Honarary-Irishman Faustino! We spend the rest of the afternoon and evening enjoying the music of The Whole Shebang, the Wolftones, Irish Times and we endured the comic wit of Hal Roach. All in all, we had a wonderful time.
Oh, for those of you who think the weekend was lacking in physical exercise, you've never been to an Irish festival with Denis. Just the treks to the beer stand is enough to keep any IBM wife (Irish By Marriage) in shape!
