Canefan Returns to the Big Apple

I love New York!! Did I ever mention that before? Well, I had the chance to return to NYC to do some site seeing and to roam around on my own. Denis had to attend a school for his job on Long Island, so I took full advantage and tagged along. So while he studied hard all day long in his class, I was out out kicking up my heals.

Denis and I arrived on Long Island Sunday, too early to check into the hotel. So we decided to take the train into the city and see what was happening. After strolling aimlessly around in the ungodly heat, we came upon the 1/2 price ticket place. As the line was pretty short, we stood in line and secured tickets to State Fair starring John Davidson, Kathryn Crosby and Andrea McArdle. We were able to catch the matinee and we really enjoyed it. Later in the week we found out the Andrea McArdle broke her foot and would be out of the production for several weeks. Glad we caught the show before that happened!

Monday night when Denis came back for his long day at hitting the books, he was much to tired to go watch the Olympic torch arrive at Rockefeller Center. So armed with my train schedule and my city map, I set off alone. I contacted Napolean and we met up to see the flaming ceremony. It was really cool. Nappy gave me a subway map which I added to my 'Never leave home without it' kit.

Tuesday Napolean showed me China Town then treated me to DimSum (Chinese breakfast). It was very interesting. Nappy showed me all around NYC. We walked and walked and walked and walked. A nice change for someone used to driving everywhere.

Wednesday the heavens opened up and it rained the whole day. Of course this Floridian didn't realize how cold rain could get. It's a good thing Nappy and I had planned on taking in the Museum of Natural History. We also caught the planetarium show while we were there. In spite of the rain, we had a great time.

Thursday I had lunch with my net.friend Otis. Otis is a great guy. We tried to go up to the observation deck of the Empire State Building but it had 0 (the big zero!!) visibility. So we opted to take in the Skyride instead. It was cool....kind of a disney type ride like you were flying over New York. As Otis had to get back to work, I wondered the streets of New York by myself for a while. I checked out Macy's and Herald Square before I caught the train back to Long Island. When Denis got back from school, we headed into Farmingdale and found a couple Irish pubs. It just wouldn't be right if we didn't hit some Irish place before we left.

Friday I hopped on the train to meet Bumblebee. What a great guy! We took the subway up to Central Park and wandered around the park for a while. He had to get to work so it was a short visit with him. Make sure you meet him when you get to New York. I boarded the train for my next destination....to meet Swoosh. Swoosh is just as peppy as she is on the talkers! And cute too! Unfortunately I had to hurry her through lunch as I had to catch the train again. Ahhhh....the life of a New Yorker! Ruled by things like train schedules!! It's something I could easily become accustomed to.

I had such a wonderful time meeting everyone and seeing all the sights. I hope that next time I will be able to meet those of you I missed this time. (You know who you are!!! :))
