Many of you who know me as Canefan may not know where the name comes from. It's a question I'm asked frequently. So here's the origin of Canefan (pronounced cane-fan, not can-e-fan).
Let's break it into pieces. Cane is short for Hurricanes, the name for the sports teams at the University of Miami. Fan is an enthusiastic lover of sports. So put the two together and you have an enthusiastic lover of the Miami Hurricanes.
As I am a veteran from the talker world on the internet, you probably know me from there. I visit many talkers but I call Vineyards home. I'm a superuser there so feel free to come by and visit. I am also Admin of another talker, America's Most Wanted. We are new and growing with lots of neat stuff. Check us out!
Canefan holds some of the best tailgate parties you've ever seen. (A tailgate party, is a party in the parking lot while waiting for game to begin.)
According to the Miami Herald newspaper of October 7, 1993:
All kinds of food
Jodi Nerney's tailgates at UM games are
legendary. "For the big games, we really
go all out. We bring in DJs and enter-
tainment and we have all kinds of food."
Six or seven friends plan the parties, then
invite their friends. "we bring a little
bit of everything," says Nerney, who works
at UM. Main courses have ranged from barbecued
pork to teriyaki chicken to whole roast pigs,
plus all kinds of salads and side dishes.
For a noon game, Nerney and her husband, Denis,
arrive early enought to prepare breakfast on
the grill.
