Travelog May 22 - June 2
Phew, I've been going so much lately I haven't had time to update you all. So sit
back, kick your feet up and click onward.
Denis and I took a much needed vacation. We hadn't been away since last July!!
Can you believe it? Well I couldn't.
Well, let me start from the beginning. When we left Miami on Thursday morning, the
temperature was around 92 Farenheit. When we stepped off the plan it was in the low
60's. And windy!!! So windy that it took Denis' hat off his head, blew it over the
wall. He ran downstairs to retrieve his hat but he didn't make
it before a bus ran over it.
We arrived at our destination, our cozy room at Eileen and
Terry's (my sister-in-law and brother-in-law). Each day would be an adventure of
it's own.
Friday May 23
- The day started out as an ordinary day with scheduled
and no-so-scheduled (like Denis' haircut) errands to be run. During the afternoon I
tried frantically to get in touch with my brother to finalize plans for my nephew's
graduation from Vassar. Low and behold, he got in touch with me! Asking us to pick up
my other nephew Rob and his girlfriend Seema from Newark airport. That was fine and
dandy...they were coming in on this airline at this time from this city. When we get
to the airport, no sign of Rob and Seema. An alas, no plane scheduled to come in at
this time from this city on this airline....but two others were scheduled within a little
over an hour. So we waited to check those two flights before we would panic. Well
when they weren't on either of the flights, we called. Guess what! They had just called
asking where we were. Well, as my brother had gotten the information wrong, we totally
missed each other. We were both in the same airport for an hour and a half waiting for
each other! They caught the bus to the train and we headed back to Montclair.
Saturday May 24
- We (Denis, Ma, Eileen and I) started out with no destination
in mind. We found ourselves headed to Liberty Park in Jersey City. We took the ferry
out to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Ellis Island was very interesting! As
it was Memorial Day weekend, everything was rather crowded. When we got to the statue,
the signs said 3 hour wait to get up in the statue. So we declined the trip and enjoyed
The Lady without seeking the inside. This was very picturesque trip, so if you want to
see more, go for it.
Sunday May 25
- Denis and I started out early for the trip to Poughkeepsie for
Chris' graduation. Everything went fine and we arrived a little
early. The only trouble was that it was raining :( And it continued to rain the whole time.
The ceremony was outdoors so we had alot of different views of umbrellas! We sat in the
rain eventually seeing Chris get his diploma.
Everyone was proud of him. Chris had some of his
art work hung in the gallery. Here's a pic of most of the family
after we helped him clean out his studio.
Monday May 26
- Den and I planned to meet my brother Lynn and sister-in-law Deb in
NYC to 'show them around'. Denis tried to look like something other than a
tourist but I don't think he fooled anyone. This was also a picturesque trip, so if
you wanna see more pics, go for it.
Tuesday May 27
- Just another day for relaxing. Terry had to work and there was
laundry to do. So while Terry and I worked (him at his job and me in the laundromat) Den,
Eileen and Ma went to see the Vanvleck Gardens. I hear they were wonderful but then I
wouldn't really know but I can tell you how wonderful the laundromat was!! :)
Wednesday May 28
- Another day trip. This time to New Hope, Pennsylvania. A nice
little trip about 2 hour drive. This time Terry was off and Den's cousin Barbara came
along too. We ended up in Lancaster, PA visiting all the little shops. Here's a nice
one of Eileen. Here we are a little
tired after all that shopping!
Thursday May 29
- We set out to visit Denis' uncle on Staten Island. We went by way
of Sandy Hook New Jersey. It was a very nice day when we started out but it wasn't so
pleasant out on the beach. (That's Denis, Ma and I in case you
were wondering.) But eventually we got to Uncle John's house. We had a nice visit and
all posed before we left.
Friday May 30
- We had been on the go all week so this was a day of rest. We all
did some errands but other than that we rested. Then at night all went to Denis' cousin's
were the family got together. Here she is with her kids.
Saturday May 31
- Denis and I got up early to head to West Point for graduation.
Somewhere we took a wrong turn and ended up getting a little (?) lost. Well, it was a
very scenic trip but we ended up arriving over an hour later than we expected. We missed
meeting the ppl who had our tickets so we were kind of left on our own to try to get in.
Well we had quite an adventure but alas! Persistence paid off and we found our party!
The ceremony was very interesting and the guest speaker was President Clinton! Well, the
part that really impressed me was the end...when they threw their
hats in the air. The custom is for children to get the hats and keep them. Both
Denis and Pepesina got to keep a hat!
Sunday June 1
- On our way home, we decided to go into NYC. There we met up with
fellow spods. We had a wonderful time playing around in FAO Schwartz. Here's
Messiah and HeartBreakKid playing
dress up with the boas. We had a very relaxing time in Central Park. Here's
ranma and Swoosh resting. More NYC spods. (Other pics to
follow!! That's a promise!)
Monday June 2
- Our last day away....we took time to stop and smell the roses. Actually
we just rested up for our trip home. As the weather was rather nasty, we stayed inside watching
videos. Summing up the trip, WE HAD A GREAT TIME!!!
Well, here's a few places and people.
